CW Grow is free for spreading on Eastern Ontario Farms

Carbon Removal Project

Canadian Wollastonite is partnering with UNDO to deliver a win-win solution for farmers and the planet. Our wollastonite is exactly the same wollastonite we use in CW Grow and captures carbon when you spread it on your soils.

As part of a carbon removal program powered by enhanced rock weathering (ERW) for farm land in Eastern Ontario, we supply and spread crushed wollastonite for free. Farmers simply cover the cost of trucking; everything else is handled for you.

What is Enhanced Rock Weathering?

Enhanced rock weathering (ERW) is a natural, scientifically proven process that removes carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. When silicate-rich rocks like wollastonite are applied to soil, they react with CO₂ in rainwater and soil moisture. This reaction forms stable minerals that lock carbon away for thousands of years.

It’s a process that happens naturally over time, but by applying crushed wollastonite to farmland, we accelerate it, making agriculture an essential part of the climate solution.

Why Wollastonite?

Wollastonite is a locally sourced mineral from Ontario that works as both a high-performing soil amendment and a cost-effective alternative to lime. It delivers long-lasting pH benefits and additional nutrients that improve plant resilience and soil health.

Key Benefits:

  • Boosts crop yields through better root growth and nutrient uptake
  • Provides silicon, calcium, and magnesium for plant resilience
  • Reduces reliance on synthetic fertilizers
  • Improves and stabilizes soil pH
  • Contributes to permanent carbon removal

Nutrient Composition

Wollastonite delivers a powerful combination of macro and micronutrients that strengthen root systems, improve nutrient uptake, and enhance overall crop health.

Scientific field trials in Canada and internationally have shown that wollastonite’s unique nutrient profile supports stable soil pH, increases plant-available silicon, and contributes to long-term carbon sequestration. Its use is backed by leading agricultural researchers and validated by emerging carbon certification standards.

How It Works

Through the Canadian Wollastonite and UNDO partnership, applying wollastonite is simple and cost-effective:

  1. Check Eligibility
Eligible farms are located within a 150 km radius of our Ontario site. Submit your details to the Canadian Farmer Program and check your eligibility.
  2. Plan Your Application
The team at UNDO will help coordinate logistics, including haulage and spreading, using trusted local contractors.
  3. Apply Like Lime
Wollastonite is applied at 2–4 tonnes per acre using standard lime spreaders. Timing is flexible to suit your operation.
  4. Track the Benefits
UNDO provides free soil testing before spreading and ongoing support to monitor improvements to your land and the climate impact of your participation.

Extra Support for Farms Near Kingston

If your farm is located near Kingston, Ontario, you may be eligible for additional funding support through the Kingston Wollastonite Rebate Program.

This rebate helps offset trucking costs, making it even easier for local farmers to access wollastonite and take part in this carbon removal initiative.

The Power of Silicon

Silicon is often overlooked in traditional fertilizer programs, yet most crops take up more silicon than phosphorus. It helps strengthen plant cell walls, increasing tolerance to drought, pests, disease, and extreme temperatures.

Wollastonite provides a rich, plant-available source of silicon, improving crop quality, reducing environmental stress, and enhancing shelf life.
